bored with your boards?

our family is not especially traditional except for when it comes to Christmas, and one of those annual traditions is the board game, usually met by groans by some but always ends up being a laugh.  A new one is added every year and for the past few years they have been murder, as in murder mystery games.  Agatha Christie’s Trivial Pursuits which has the most random questions and we are avid Agatha Christie fans, but these are for real geeks.  Then there was the vintage Clue video game, a jem of a find on etsy, now this was a classic vintage purchase, luckily we still have a VCR lurking around somewhere and if you’re not amused by the costumes and set then you certainly will be by the acting.  For this year there are a number of possibilities which have yet to have been voted on from Orient Express taken straight from Agatha obviously, then there’s the TV detectives of Kojak, Columbo or Murder she Wrote?  We could all eat lollipops whilst playing Kojak I suppose and have back runs of the show in the background or listen to these records, truly themed game playing.  And how exactly does the Columbo game work you move around the board psychologically teases the murderer until the little board piece breaks down and confesses, we’d have to wear macs too?  There really are some hilarious vintage board games to collect though,  Bride Bingo  if you’re organising a hen weekend, or What shall i wear for the fashionistas and my favourite find ‘ Social Security...is getting along with people’ where nobody loses! Not sure many of us would agree with that in light of the condition of modern day social security systems.

And just one more thing…

thunder storms and hitchcock…

what better than to cosy up and watch hitchcock’s rear window while the storm continues outside…especially after getting wet in it countless times today whilst trying to get some shots with the old faithful slr at a couple of  beaches.  This included some tricky avoiding of lightning strikes of abandoned beach parasol poles, whichI was resolved to use in the shots.   left the digital today to return to old faithful bulky pentax. there is still something about the mystery and anticipation of wating to see what the photo will come out like and if it comes out at all rather than just flicking through on your digital.   found some fun pieces too on etsy to match my hitchcock, stormy day:

tea and murder

you can take the girl out of england but you can’t take the england out of the girl: an afternoon of writing, tea in my new vintage english pink cup, tiny fruit cakes and murder- listening to bbc agatha christies who dunnits on digital radio with june whitfield playing miss marple, which can be  a little disconcerting when listening as I keep getting ab fab flashbacks! the perfect afternoon indoors as my greek summer cools down…

pink tea?just got these from my grandmother as other half managed to bring whole set back in hand luggage on plane despite lots of moaning naturally.  they are royal stuart, bone china, made in england and each cup, saucer and plate is in a different pastel shade with gilded scalloped edging. i remember admiring them in the china cabinet when I was little as they reminded me of rainbows and cupcakes… sniff sniff though the pink plate is missing… but at least the others are going to be loved again.

bday beaching

so anorak girl has been nicely distracted by her bday over the weekend…started off very chilled with pancakes (I know I said the pinkmilk girls like them) and opening pressies. (pics coming soon)  then off for coffees in the park (yes at the waffle house) and then to the beach for a picnic.

messing about in boats

found a cool new indie beach called iguana beach, more reggae colours than iguana though really.

danger: sun loungers

manned by a sleepy teddy elephant in a hammock…the man with the plan

he’d thought of everything: apart from the usual sun loungers and parasols there was a beach library, beach mags, lilos, tavli, snorkelling gear, anything you could imagine for hire.   personally I’m not a huge fan of busy beaches, would prefer own little island, diana rigg in evil under the sun style bathing (without the who dunnit part) rather than boobs and bat and ball everywhere.  it was luckily pretty quiet though and fairly chilled apart from me braining myself twice with my sun lounger. i had visions of leaving the beach with concussion rather than being able to enjoy my bday english trifle

english trifle

without a headache. but forget the tupperware take the vintage glass in the hamper, naturally this trifle was not made by me (thanks mum).

after the beach we went to my favourite restaurant for much needed cheese dishes and then cluedo and champagne for some who dunnit,

who dunnit

it was a slow game for me more everyone else was on who dunnit and i was still at oh there’s a body…

under the dryerbut at least i had my mini moet and pink straw…it was the end of my bday but i was happy.
