a vintage birthday

in need of some birthday pressie ideas and wanting to go vintage have been rummaging virtual reality style through the vintage vaults of etsy…so far have a few finds which have caught my eye.. birthdays deserve treats especially when they’re now pressies to mark the big 30…but you can’t lose your sense of humour or try to ignore it…

then there are the designer treats and naturally as bday pressie hunting usually goes you end up finding things you would also like yourself…

I have one of these myself and it never fails to be fun when you take it out…

Don’t ask me why but I’ve always had a thing for seventies monogram print purses and wallets, I think there was one in the house when I was little but seeing as I usually hate the louis vuitton style emblazoned logo on everything passing as style I can’t help myself. there is still something alluring about a seventies gucci print especially with the navy and red racing stripe…

and then there are those perfect mint condition finds like this 50s mad men style Du Barry gift set…it’s like an offering from the vintage past. why on earth did no one use this, it is stunning. may be a husband’s gift to appease his wife for all those hours at the office (and the rest) whilst she was stuck in the suburbs with the children, her cigarettes and tupperware and she never even liked the gift. gold lame is not everyone’s taste whatever the reason it is gorgeous. even love the name of the shade of the lipstick:snowball of fire.

“Innovation! One cannot be forever innovating. I want to create classics.”

One of my favourite quotes from Coco Chanel.  Seeing as the film will soon be out hopefully, starring Audrey Tautou (I live in Greece remember -good things come to those who wait) pinkmilkvintage‘s treasury this week is monochrome magic.  If you can’t afford chanel vintage then get the style and do it your own way like Chanel said “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different” and as my mum always used to say to me growing up “Don’t be a sheep” as she tried to save me from various crimes against fashion.  (some successful some not- still have nightmares about the shell suit- of which the only word that springs to mind is Chanel’s least favourite word ‘vulgarity’ and that is certainly what it was, nothing could save it, not even its pinkness.

remember there are “two things a girl should be: classy and fabulous” and start an empire here and there…
