tea and murder

you can take the girl out of england but you can’t take the england out of the girl: an afternoon of writing, tea in my new vintage english pink cup, tiny fruit cakes and murder- listening to bbc agatha christies who dunnits on digital radio with june whitfield playing miss marple, which can be  a little disconcerting when listening as I keep getting ab fab flashbacks! the perfect afternoon indoors as my greek summer cools down…

pink tea?just got these from my grandmother as other half managed to bring whole set back in hand luggage on plane despite lots of moaning naturally.  they are royal stuart, bone china, made in england and each cup, saucer and plate is in a different pastel shade with gilded scalloped edging. i remember admiring them in the china cabinet when I was little as they reminded me of rainbows and cupcakes… sniff sniff though the pink plate is missing… but at least the others are going to be loved again.

if the scrunchie came back so can hats

my first face to face encounter with the scrunchie revival came on a trip to japan…there were scrunchies everywhere. i was hoping it would be an isolated outbreak but on my return to europe you could see it had slowly spread. still having an original vintage scrunchie, from those foolish days when even wearing odd neon socks was seen as cool i still don’t think i could bring myself to list it on pinkmilkvintage. yes i’m now a scrunchie snob. i suppose fashion gets away with it on the younger generations who have no knowledge of its first go around the fashion merry-go-round. so as i see it if scrunchies can come back so can hats. the fascinator has replaced the traditional mother of the bride meets mrs bouquet hat usually spotted at weddings…but there is always room for a vintage hat in your wardrobe. i wish more people wore hats and not just drag them out for weddings. apart from the lack of practicality (hello high heels) they look fabulous and without being worn they are simply gathering vintage dust. even if you do not usually suit hats there is such a variety of shapes there must be a hat out there for everybody…

so think red lips, cocktails and a fabulous hat…

You’re having a giraffe

As an etsyian I usually leave the procuring of treasuries in the safe hands of pinkmilk Kate but as work is a little quieter during august I have been determined to get a treasury spot.  Naturally as fellow etsyians know this is no easy task at all as one must diligently  wait for the current lists to drop below 333 then be ready to pounce.  What follows is the same feeling of tension, elbow digging and high heel stamping as a surge of vintage hunters all seeking the find of a beautiful vintage Italian magazine clutch bag.  After several failed attempts I felt as if the ridiculous way the list numbers surge to 600 plus after one leptaki of time was like ‘You’re having a giraffe’.

I was unabashed and still determined to get a spot, give it this title and feature nothing but giraffes!  It came down to the wire as well, when the faithful moment came of actually getting a treasury spot I went into blind panic when I was prompted to enter the title: Giraffes? Zoo scenes? What lovable giraffe characters are there?

Luckily I was saved by Poirot’s Miss Lemon and the recollection of relisting a pair of cute twenties dress clips earlier…so secretarial inspiration replaced the giraffe…and pink and grey tones followed…

maybe giraffes will make a come back next time…
