forget men i’m in love with a dress (or two)

i am completely head over heels in love with this etsy seller as it would appear hundreds of others are: Timeless Vintage Vixen and its exquisite vintage finds of dresses from the 20s onwards. Based in beverley hills it exudes vintage glamour and we all need some glamour in our lives…  and I have the perfect excuse for spending time lusting after these finds…a summer wedding in paris to attend…now one couldn’t just go in any old dress could one? one from each decade???

she has a great teal Ossie Clark seventies dress too but I can’t take anymore amazing dresses…it is too much…

Was it Miss Scarlett in the kitchen with the frying pan?

no silly…there is no frying pan but a gun and a knife rather than a revolver and a dagger, which took some time to get used to whilst playing an american vintage find of a game…

from JellyfishJunk vintage site, San Francisco.

yes clue (if you’ve seen the film you’ll know) but on a video game.  I love the vintage illustrations on the box of everyone marvelling over the sight of the vhs player (so compact) didn’t anyone tell them you don’t have to sit that close to the screen or the vhs for it to work.  Anyway it has complete farcical actors and acting. it also has a funny red 3d card that you decipher the mysteries’ solutions with! (so no cheating by taking a quick peek). Obviously there’s the usual femme fatale of miss scarlett with some great dress gloves and cigarette holders.  there is also miss peach who is young and supposedly french and does wear a rather nice fifties cocktail dress, unfortuately her whole ensemble is just a little what is that word? hmm peach! Anyway I love it and over champagne in vintage babycham glasses, lots of cheese and truffles it is vintage whodunnit paradise and I actually got to be miss scarlett and won if only once…hands off…this one is mine, but you can find another one on etsy at retroclassics.

which hitchcock tonight?

you know the anorak girl she loves hitchcock…and naturally as such she got a few more of the collection for christmas presents. Now of course she’s realising she should have got a new laptop instead seeing as the z key has already being lost to the gods of the vacuum cleaner’s suction power, it would appear the ‘N’ key and space bar are now on the way out too.  thought it was my typing and wine at first but the keys seem to be slowly going…

anyway back to hitchcock… ‘rope’ was the film of choice as it reminds me of the academic and philosophical arguments of Dionysian in Donna Tartt’s ‘The Secret History’ ‘and the so called intellectual thrills of murder in the film. The ensemble cast and fluid filming made it every bit a stage play, if rather different from the original play written by Patrick Hamiliton in 1929 . Have to agree with the critics though that it did seem a bit sterile as the homosexual undertones of the original play were no longer undertones: in fact they were more completely white washed…it did prompt a long debate about Nietzsche though with my other half: the philosophy graduate. i think we actually agreed though…pretty monumental in itself really. so will it be the birds next…

counting down with profiteroles

how many days before christmas…how many days before I can stop work…how many days before we can say good bye to this year…how many profiteroles have  I eaten…

too many still…going through a whole term without a break has taken its toll, need to relocate to a country where they are less masochistic and actually have half terms. naturally to ease the pain my live-in chef aka my husband has been venting out his frustration with the mixer and me with the results: weeks of biscotti, banana bread cake, chocolate profiteroles, white chocolate brownies, apple strudel cake, chocolate cheesecake cupcakes and again more white chocolate profiteroles today.  heavenly! and the midnight hot chocolates with cream and marshmallows whilst watching a whodunnit…some much needed distraction from what has been a very stressful few months for the anorakgirl.  and I have found the perfect cherry on the cake as it were: a slice of heaven in artist andrea kett ‘the tweed temptress’

Marple cake hand glittered print by Andreakett on etsy.

and of course there had to be a red riding hood getting into trouble as always…

certainly on a late christmas wishlist…

thunder storms and hitchcock…

what better than to cosy up and watch hitchcock’s rear window while the storm continues outside…especially after getting wet in it countless times today whilst trying to get some shots with the old faithful slr at a couple of  beaches.  This included some tricky avoiding of lightning strikes of abandoned beach parasol poles, whichI was resolved to use in the shots.   left the digital today to return to old faithful bulky pentax. there is still something about the mystery and anticipation of wating to see what the photo will come out like and if it comes out at all rather than just flicking through on your digital.   found some fun pieces too on etsy to match my hitchcock, stormy day:
